UNIT PLAN QUESTIONS

PLEASE READ THE COURSE OUTLINE AND THESE FAQs CAREFULLY FOR QUESTIONS ABOUT THE UNIT PLAN ASSIGNMENT.

  • Is it ok to just put a reference page at the back of my unit plan to say where I got all my resources, rather than listing the references throughout the lessons?

Yes. In fact, that might be preferable (the lessons are less "clogged up" that way). Be sure to follow proper citation format though.

  • Do I have to use the templates you've provided?

No. Just be sure to include all of the required components (check course outline and "Unit Planning Guidelines" handouts - the orange sheets - for details).

  • How many "teaching approaches" (e.g., concept teaching, skills teaching, historical thinking,Web 2.0 tools, critical thinking, controversial issues, etc.) do I need to include in my unit plan?

I will be looking for at least two of these approaches in the unit plan.

  • Do I need to incorporate technology in my unit plan?

Yes, you need to include a minimum of 1 - 3 technology related outcomes from the Program of Studies, and you need to incorporate teaching tools and activites that will help fulfill these outcomes.

  • How much detail should I include in my "mini" lessons?

I should be able to follow the logic of your lesson plan clearly. This means that the steps you will follow in the lesson should be clearly laid out. Think of it this way: Include as much detail as a substitute teacher would need to make sense of your lessons. You do not need to include handouts or supplementary materials but the lesson should have a clear beginning, middle and end and be easy to follow. One page per lesson is a guideline that some students find helpful. You may find the unit plan samples provided on this wiki helpful
